My Neighbor, Miguel
Miguel, a 72-year-old Colombian American artist takes objects that others would call rubbish and turns them into beautiful pieces which he displays for the whole neighbourhood to enjoy. In this documentary, he reflects on art, community and life during and after the AIDS crisis in San Francisco. A personal documentary centering a conversation between the filmmaker and their mother about gender identity. As the middle child of christian pastors, Ley never imagined that transitioning was possible. The film follows Ley´s physical and psychological journey to become themself, while struggling to find a middle ground with their family.
