A Long Winter
Yorkshire-born director Andrew Haigh (All of Us Strangers) returns with A Long Winter, a rich and nuanced character drama set during the 1950s high in the beautiful, snow peaked Rocky Mountains.
Adapted from a short story by Colm Toibin, the film follows a family whose life is upended by the disappearance of a troubled wife and mother during the first blizzard of the season. Featuring terrific performances by an ensemble cast, especially Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as the struggling father.
“It is a poignant, subversive study of grief and desire, and the terrible, infantilised loneliness of men without women; it is fiercely acted, and wonderfully shot by cinematographer André Turpin.” — Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
