Fernando Eimbcke’s gentle, charming character drama tracks an unlikely friendship with emotional warmth and touches of deadpan comedy.
Landlady Olga is a little stubborn and set in her ways and struggles to adjust when a new tenant smuggles in his video game obsessed nine-year-old son. Memorably rendering the anonymous apartment blocks of Mexico City in finely grained black-and-white cinematography and imaginative sound design, the film has a finely-toned sense of detail.
