I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning

LIFF-favourite Clio Barnard (The Selfish Giant, Ali & Ava) returns with a story of five Birmingham school friends growing apart against the backdrop of the UK housing crisis.

Propelled by its central actors Daryl McCormack, Jay Lycurgo, Anthony Boyle, Lola Petticrew and Joe Cole, Barnard’s latest wrestles with the economic pressures put on the contemporary working class with a British wit and unwavering power. Adapted by Edna Walsh from the book by Keiran Goddard, the film won the audience award at this year’s Directors Fortnight in Cannes.

“This is a timely drama from a director with a growing canon of eloquent humanist work – a melancholy torch song to the stories that play out beneath our changing skylines.” — Philip De Semlyen, Time Out
