In a Whisper

From writer-director Leyla Bouzid (As I Open My Eyes), In a Whisper is a touching intergenerational family drama with a captivating ensemble cast, including the great Palestinian actress Hiam Abbass (also in Atonement at LIFF 2026).

Back in Tunisia for her uncle’s funeral, Lilia reunites with a family that knows nothing about her life in Paris, especially her love life. Determined to unravel the mystery surrounding her uncle’s sudden death, Lilia find herself confronted with long-hidden family secrets.

“The film unfolds over six days of mourning, and an impeccable ensemble cast and a vivid sense of time and place allow for a nuanced exploration of relationships under pressure; not just from personal prejudice, but also from wider social constraints.” — Amber Wilkinson, Screen International
