Persepolis

We opened LIFF 2007 with Persepolis at Leeds Town Hall and we are screening the film again in tribute to the artist, writer and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi who passed away this June.

Adapted from her graphic novel, the groundbreaking animated classic Persepolis follows the life of Marji, a spirited young girl growing up in Iran during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Through her eyes, we witness the fall of the Shah, and the rise of a new and even more strict regime.

“Here is an adaptation so inspired, so simple and so frictionless in its transformation of the source material that it’s almost a miracle.” — Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
