São Paulo, Incorporated

Luiz Sérgio Person’s electrifying portrait of 1960s São Paulo captures a metropolis transformed by industrialisation.

As the city’s booming automotive industry gathers pace, ambitious young Carlos pursues professional success while growing increasingly alienated from the life he has built. Ricardo Aronovich’s striking cinematography captures the scale and energy of the city, revealing a society in thrall to progress and the individual reduced to another cog in its machine.

“Equally surprising is the versatility of Ricardo Aronovich’s camera, capable of capturing the energy of a large crowd or the fragility of a face with… sensitivity.” — Cecilia Cenciarelli, Il Cinema Ritrovato
