The History of Concrete

After attending a Hallmark movie workshop, John Wilson turns his new knowledge to a film about concrete, delivered with his usual dry wit.

Finding himself with too much time on his hands, Wilson wonders if he can apply the winning rom-com formula to a documentary about the dullest thing. From a man removing chewing gum from pavements to runners circling the same flat block, to dinner with Kim Kardashian, his feature debut proves again that Wilson is a master at finding absurd hilarity in the mundane.

“You’re left wondering how a movie about concrete could leave a lump in your throat. But that’s how Wilson works, making us see what we might not have otherwise.” — Alissa Wilkinson, New York Times
